Boy, it’s been ages since my last post! Not to make excuses for myself, but these past months I’ve been busy and mostly stressed out by the entire process of moving to another country. I simply didn’t have any energy left to update my blog, even if I’ve been constantly plagued by feelings of guilt and remorse. But lets not dwell on the past and instead concentrate on the present moment! I’m in Belgium for 3 days now and everything feels new and unfamiliar. So many things to discover and learn, I welcome this adventure with arms wide open!
This small summer wreath with quilled strawberries and bees is the last commission I worked on before leaving Romania. It took me 2 days to make the flowers, leaves and strawberries, stem them and then work on the tiny bees. It took me almost another day to arrange them in a wreath, paint the dots on the fruits and the background. I am proud of myself for completing this project so fast.

Quilled Poppies, Wheat and Strawberries (Summer in a Frame) and My New Etsy Shop.
This project came to life due to a wonderful Facebook event, called the Artchain. For 5 days I had to share old projects and this gave me the opportunity to revisit works which I made for my blog back in 2011. “Gifts of Summer” was created for the Homyachock Challenge Blog when I was invited by their quilling team to be a guest designer. I must confess that back in those days I was pretty proud of that little piece, but now I couldn’t help thinking how I would bring the same idea to life in 2015. So here is my interpretation of it now:
Quilled Poppies, Wheat and Strawberries – Summer in a Frame
All the flowers and the strawberries are made with 1mm wide paper strips. It was a little bit tricky to bend the petals of the poppies to make them look more natural, but after 2 days of trying different techniques, I finally managed to get the look I wanted. Continue reading →
Quilled Daisies, Dandelions and Berries – Flowers in My Heart III.
This is my third heart decorated with quilled flowers and because I can bet it won’t be the last, I decided to include them all in a series titled “Flowers in My Heart”. I am sure every quiller out there will resonate with these words, as flowers are in the center of most of our artworks.
Flowers in My Heart III – Quilled Daisies, Dandelions and Berries
For the initial design I also quilled wheat and yellow poppies, but as I didn’t have enough space to place them all and I feel that less is always more, I eventually included only the daisies, berries and the fern-like leaves in the final arrangement. Continue reading →
