Magnolia Wall Art – Quilling Paper Magnolia Botanical Illustration.
This magnolia wall art is the first of a series of projects on which I started working last year. It is based on botanical prints. I often use flower drawings as a source of inspiration for my work. It’s helpful to see a clear depiction of the structure of a plant with all its elements and I also like their artistic side.
There are many varieties of magnolias and they come in many colours, but there is just something absolutely charming about this pure white one. Magnolia grandiflora flowers are truly impressive in their size, reaching 30 cm (approximately 12 in) in diameter. While I try to make all my paper plants life-size, I had to limit mine to just 7 cm, otherwise I would have glued and rolled paper strips for days. I did experiment later with larger size flowers and I will share the results in another post.
Named after French botanist Pierre Magnol, Magnolia is a large genus of approximately about 240 species of trees and shrubs. The natural range extends from North and South America, East Asia and the Himalayas. Besides white, the large flowers come in various shades of pink, yellow and purple.
Magnolia grandiflora is native to the south-eastern region of the United States where is commonly known as southern magnolia. The gorgeous fragrant lemony-scented white flowers and the lustrous evergreen foliage makes it a very popular ornamental tree.
The size of this piece is 21x30cm or A4.
